Vegan Maca Nutella: Creamy Chocolate Hazelnut Spread Recipe

This is my first post as a MegaFood ambassador, and I couldn’t be more excited. MegaFood makes high-quality, whole-food-based supplements, and I’ve been using several of their nutrient booster powders for a few months. I’m happy to share my experience here and on my YouTube channel. Also — this vegan maca Nutella is incredible.

I focus on whole, minimally processed foods, but I also love boosting recipes with superfoods like turmeric, matcha, goji berries, and raw cacao. Those additions give a small but meaningful nutritional and flavor lift that helps me feel balanced and energized throughout the day. They’re also fun to experiment with in the kitchen.

MegaFood sent me five of their nutrient booster powders: Daily Maca Plus for Women, Daily C-Protect, Daily Energy, Daily Purify, and Daily Turmeric. These unsweetened blends combine whole-food ingredients and herbs. MegaFood works directly with farmers to source ingredients they trust, which I appreciate. Each powder has a standout ingredient — reishi mushroom in Daily Purify or ashwagandha in Daily Energy — but the Daily Maca Plus is the one that captured my attention most.

What is Maca?

Maca is a root vegetable from the Andes that has been eaten and used medicinally for thousands of years. In traditional Andean culture it’s valued as both food and a supportive herb. Today many people use maca to help with everyday hormonal discomforts related to the female cycle. It has a pleasant, nutty, slightly earthy flavor that works beautifully in sweet and savory recipes.

This Boosted Vegan Maca Nutella blends roasted hazelnuts and chocolate with dates, maple syrup, raw cacao, and Daily Maca Plus to create a creamy, not-too-sweet spread. I swapped refined sugar for a mix of dates and maple syrup, used antioxidant-rich raw cacao instead of processed cocoa, and used unsweetened soy milk in place of dairy to achieve a smooth texture. The maca powder brings a subtle nutty note that pairs perfectly with hazelnut and chocolate flavors while adding a nutrient boost.

Enjoy this maca nutella on toast for breakfast, with fruit, or as a snack with crackers. It tastes indulgent but uses wholesome ingredients, so it’s a tasty way to support your nutrition. Just try not to eat the whole jar at once.

Vegan Maca Nutella with Daily Maca Plus MegaFood Nutrient Booster Powder

By: Jenné Claiborne
You can use the MegaFood store finder to locate Daily Maca Plus or purchase it online where available.
Servings: 2 cups

Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups hazelnuts
  • ½ cup pitted dates — if not soft, soak in the soy milk for an hour before using
  • ¼ cup + 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons MegaFood Daily Maca Plus Nutrient Booster Powder
  • ½ cup + 2 tablespoons unsweetened plain soy milk — or another non-dairy milk
  • 3 tablespoons raw cacao powder — or cocoa powder

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread hazelnuts evenly on a baking sheet and toast for 10–12 minutes, until fragrant and slightly darkened. Watch closely so they don’t burn.
  • Remove the hazelnuts and place them in the center of a clean kitchen towel. Wrap tightly and let cool about 2 minutes, then rub the nuts in the towel to loosen the skins. Return the skinned nuts to the baking sheet and let them cool another 10 minutes.
  • Put the nuts in a food processor and blend until they form a coarse nut butter. Add the dates, maple syrup, and maca powder and blend about 1 minute more, until the dates are incorporated. The mixture will be chunky at first; while blending, slowly drizzle in the soy milk until the spread becomes smooth and creamy. Add the cacao powder and blend until fully combined and silky.
  • Transfer the nutella to a glass jar. Store in the refrigerator for up to 7 days or enjoy immediately.
